RELIABILITY OF POWER SOURCES IN CYCLONE AREAS

IT MIGHT BE TIME TO DITCH HIGH VOLTAGE POWERLINES AND POWER STATIONS IN CYCLONE AREAS AND MAKE EVERY HOUSE AND INDUSTRY GENERATE THEIR OWN POWER THROUGH SOLAR PANELS OR WIND POWER OR OTHER RENEWABLE POWER SOURCES

In response to the Queensland Opposition Leader's call to put powerlines underground, it would be very difficult and impractical to put every line underground, and it will be too expensive to do so.

Sure I am concerned about the damage of power poles in the Innisfail and Tully areas in the wake of Cyclone Larry and Yasi. I honestly believe it will be much better to do withouthigh voltage powerlines and power stations and make every house and industry generate their own power through solar panels, wind power and other renewal power sources. And force every town to have either solar farms or wind farms.

It may not protect areas from power loss in natural disasters but making every house and industry generate their own power is a much cheaper option long term, and it will help the environment and possibly mininise the loss of power in natural disasters.

I used to think that massive hydro electric schemes was a good thing, but I have changed my mind. I am still opposed to coal fired and gas fired power stations. Now I don't think building high voltage powerlines or power stations is a good idea.

If we could ditch the high voltage powerlines and power stations and force every home and industry to generate their own power it could benefit everybody in the long term.
